Melanes is near a very fertile and intensively cultivated valley of olive groves and orchards interspersed with cypress trees. On the opposite side of the valley is the small village of Kourounichori. Melanes has several traditional tavernas.

It is a beautiful area for walking. There are footpaths through the valley which lead to Kourounochori and via the hamlet of Mili to a marble statue, the Kouros of Flerio.
