Apollonas
is the most Northern village on Naxos. It is a small fishing
port with some tourist accommodation.
The village has two beaches and a variety of waterside tavernas
along the quayside.
It offers the traveler a welcome break after a journey through
the mountains of the North of the island or along the coastal
road.
Above the village, near the main road, is the giant marble statue,
the Kouros of Apollonas which dates back to the 6th century
BC The statue has a length of 10 meters and is still in the
original quarry.
The work on the statue was probably abandoned because a fault
developed in the marble.
